Arrive

Phones are sealed in a pouch at the door. Shoes come off. The light is already low and the score is already playing when you walk in.

Find your way to lying down or sitting, whichever lets your body stop holding itself up. Eye masks and blankets are there if you want them. The floor does the work now.

The Facilitator walks your attention through the body. Feet, legs, back, shoulders, jaw. Where you notice holding, you are asked only to notice it.

Before anyone breathes, two things are taught. The way back to rest, which is yours at any moment. And the words the room says together at the close. Both are yours to keep.

What’s shared in the room stays in the room.

Intend

One honest question. Why are you here tonight? A real answer, in your own words.

You write it on your card by finishing one sentence. One line. Private. No one reads it but you.

Three minutes. It is the difference between a session you attended and a session you meant.

Breathe

Sixteen minutes. Three techniques, in order, each slower than the last. Every technique in RESET is a Level 1 technique: the breath is slowed, never sped up, and nothing in it is fast or forced.

  1. 8:00

    Physiological sighs

Two breaths in through the nose, one long and a short one on top, then a slow sigh out through the mouth. Again, and again, for about three minutes. The double inhale is thought to reopen the small air sacs of the lungs, and a long exhale is associated with a slower heart rate. It has been studied for its effects on stress in the moment.

  2. 11:00

    Extended exhale

In through the nose for four, out for six. As the minutes pass the exhale lengthens toward eight, and only as far as stays comfortable. The exhale is where the letting go lives. Breathing out longer than you breathe in has been studied for its effect on the body’s rest response.

  3. 17:00

    Coherent breathing

In for five, out for five. About five and a half breaths a minute, like a tide. The music carries the count so you don’t have to: the score swells and settles on an eleven second cycle, and the breath follows it. Breathing at this pace has been studied for its effects on heart rate variability and stress.

Throughout, never more than five minutes apart, the Facilitator repeats the way back to rest in the same words each time. You can take it whenever you like and stay there for as long as you like. Taking it is part of the method.

What you may feel

Calm, mostly. Warmth. A slower heartbeat. Some people feel mild tingling in the hands or face, and at Level 1 that is about as far as it goes. Something may come up. It is allowed to. You don’t have to do anything with it yet.

Nothing is forced. Rest is always available, and the Facilitator reminds you of it in the same words every few minutes. Taking it is never a failure.

Witness

As the breath steadies, the Facilitator asks you to notice what is here. Sensation. Emotion. A thought that keeps returning.

Nothing is interpreted for you. The Facilitator narrates permission, never meaning. Noticing is enough.

Experience it. Interpret it however you choose.

Integrate

The counting stops. You breathe however your body wants to. The light comes up just enough to read by.

A full quiet minute before anything is asked of you.

Then you sit up and take the card. It asks you to finish one sentence with one thing you will do: an action, a conversation, a boundary, or a decision. Small enough to happen this week.

If you want to, turn to one person near you and share one word about where you are right now. Or keep it private. Both are exactly right. No one is ever called on.

Eight minutes is the minimum, never skipped and never rushed. Most experiences end when the music ends. This one keeps going until you know what you are taking with you.

Embody

The closing. The Facilitator says one line. The room answers with the line it learned at arrival. Then the last line, and the lights rise on it.

The breath is only the beginning.

Water in the lobby. Take your time.

The card goes home with you. Two days later, one message asks one question: did you do the thing on the card.

When RESET feels familiar, RELEASE is the next door.

At the door

Bring and wear

Wear something you can lie down in. Mats, blankets, and eye masks are provided.

Bring water if you want it; there is water in the lobby. Phones go into a pouch at check-in and come back at the Return.

Doors 15 minutes before. Check-in takes about a minute, including a sixty second note on how you are arriving.

How we hold the room

RESET is Level 1. The breath is slowed, never sped up. No screening form is needed at this level. A waiver is signed at the door.

Seated or lying only. No touch without your explicit consent that session; the default is no touch. Water, clear exits, and a first-aid kit are checked before doors open, and at least one person in the room holds current CPR and first-aid certification. A referral list of licensed professionals is on hand.

The Facilitator never diagnoses, treats, or interprets your experience for you.

The screening form and the 18+ requirement apply to Levels 2 and 3. Some conditions mean Level 1 is the right level, or the only level, for you. The full list, with the reason behind each one, is on the safety page. Read it and consult your physician where indicated.
